Soulsinging

That which we come from,
Is that which we return to,
Is that which we are.

To part the illusion,
To bear the soul up to God,
To turn the eye inward,
Is to know peace, in this lifetime.

I part the veil, or the veil parts me,
And it all - or perhaps nothingness - that is what I see.

(re)naissance

Filed under: musing — rabbit @ 2:49 pm

Theologian and existentialist philosopher Paul Tillich once commented, “What we call the ‘Renaissance’ was participated in by about one thousand people.”

That is a jolting thought, but revolutionary endeavors often start in exactly that fashion, with a small number of evolved souls exploring new territories of culture and consciousness.

More jolting is to think that 35,000 people participate in Burning Man each year and they are perhaps more different, from the societal norm, than their sixteenth century counterparts. How will we look back on this period of western civilization in say, 2250? Are we in the midst of a great paradigm shift led by a vanguard of cultural creatives, and if so, how many of us are there?

(re)searching

Filed under: musing — rabbit @ 3:59 pm

Join, or Die!
The phrase “United We Stand” has recently been made popular as an expression of our unity as a nation in a post 9/11 world. Sadly what is missing is the second half of the original saying; “,divided we fall.” I was suprised to discover that it was not Ben Franklin who originally coined the phrase, but rather Aesop, a Greek storyteller who lived from 620 to 560 BC. This should not suprise me as I know that as a nation we are ethnocentric, Americancentric, and now I fear, Republicancentric. I too am a part of this culture. Yet I seek to find the truth, to walk my virtue boldly, and to be part of a solution, not the problem. This, I think, is going to take some time as there are so many things to consider.

Like many of my peers, I am really pissed off by the recent election results. Did my vote even count? Now, like many others, I find myself reflecting and wondering what’s next? So many questions running through my head: Do I run away? Become more active? Can a two-party system really work? Should we blue states secede? If so, how? What might this new state look like? Should I join a militia, the marines, blog, or the peace corps? Who is telling the truth, Bush, or bin Laden? Do we owe the world an apology? Would it be accepted? What are we united against? Who is the enemy? Are we even justified in this action?

I have few answers to these difficult questions but, together dear reader, perhaps we can sort this out before history repeats itself. In the meantime I will continue my (re)searching…

“United we stand, divided we fall.” - Aesop, a Greek storyteller who lived from 620 to 560 BC.

“By union the smallest states thrive. By discord the greatest are destroyed.” - Sallust, Roman Historian who lived from 86 to 34 BC

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” - George Santayana, Spanish philosopher and poet, 1863 - 1952

Elections and Other Oddities

Filed under: musing — rabbit @ 8:04 pm

I have been researching various election day oddities (that I intended to post here) when I discovered that some nice folks have already begun compiling such data over at Wikipedia.

In other news, the financing has been approved to begin project Monster Garage. (I should probably add a category for that huh?) Maybe I can incorporate some of these ideas into the plan. Then again, no, I would hate to have the power go out when I need to switch into ‘bathroom mode’. That would be no better than what I have now…

Concession

Filed under: musing — rabbit @ 3:38 pm

*sigh*

We ARE a nation deeply divided as the power-mongering neo-cons of the GOP are consolidating power while the opposition shrinks back in ‘graceful concession‘. I fear for the future of this nation as the minority opposition may have no choice but to become more proactive, more vocal, more radical, in its efforts to resist the GOP regime. How far will the pendulum continue to the right? Where are all the Cultural Creatives? Where’s my passport?

And The Beat Goes On

Filed under: musing — rabbit @ 2:03 pm

Last night I dreamt that the ‘band’ had a new drummer and the old drummer was not too pleased.

weel see…

If Bush loses in a similar fashion than he ‘won’ last time I wonder if he will bow out as gracefully as Gore did? Either way it goes I think we are in for a long road ahead to try to regain some semblance of unity in this country. Remember the words of Benjamin Franklin; “United we stand, divided we fall”, or was that unite or die? And so the American Experiment continues as I contemplate the weather and whether country living is written in visible ink?
