I am learning a new appreciation for astrology. Partly due to my study of Kabalah and Tarot and partly due to the influence of friends in my life who are knowledgeable in the science. For instance, knowledge of the recent Mercury retrograde made the reasons for many things more apparent and tolerable(?) during that period. I also recently discovered a more in depth understanding of some of the planetary placements in my chart, notably Mercury (once again):

MERCURY IN ARIES
Very self-willed and confident, these people know what they want. In arguments they are combative and convinced they are right. They are fast thinkers and have sharp tongues, and can be intellectually arrogant.

I am beginning understand the astrological significance of this in my chart and how it sometimes leads to trouble in my relations with others. Now if someone could explain to me why I have been feeling so distant and ‘world-upside-down’ the past few days. Cancer Moon? Earthquakes? Holiday blues? Boredom?

As true today in ‘this world’ as the year I was born; 1966.

“Today is such a time, when the project of interpretation is largely reactionary, stifling. Like the fumes of the automobile and of heavy industry which befoul the urban atmosphere, the effusion of interpretations of art today poisons our sensibilities. In a culture whose already classical dilemma is the hypertrophy of the intellect at the expense of energy and sensual capability, interpretation is the revenge of the intellect upon art.

Even more. It is the revenge of the intellect upon the world. To interpret is to impoverish, to deplete the world — in order to set up a shadow world of “meanings.” It is to turn the world into this world. (”This world”! As if there were any other.)

The world, our world, is depleted, impoverished enough. Away with all duplicates of it, until we again experience more immediately what we have. ” ~ Susan Sontag [1933-2004]

Still (re)Counting

It appears as though 2004 Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry will file today, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, papers in support of the Green Party/Libertarian Party recount effort. Specifically, Kerry will be filing a request for expedited discovery regarding Triad Systems voting machines, as well as a motion for a preservation order to protect any and all discovery and preserve any evidence on this matter.

Hmmmm…

In local news, After winning the first two counts in the state’s closest race ever, Rossi fell behind Democrat Christine Gregoire by 10 votes in what was supposed to be the final day of an unprecedented statewide manual recount.

That is a margin of 0.00036 percent!

The Germans have built a 30-acre facility that went online earlier this month, becoming the biggest solar energy plant in the world.

Meanwhile, back in the ‘Red Country’, increasing numbers of U.S. businesses have joined environmental groups to push President Bush to embrace alternative energy. Instead, the administration has blocked attempts in Congress to adopt specific goals and timelines for increasing renewable sources and has emphasized oil, natural gas and coal exploration.

Materials of War

The global need for housing includes millions of refugees and displaced persons – victims of natural disasters and wars. Award-winning Iranian architect, Nader Khalili, has found a way to create sustainable housing using the materials of war – sandbags and barbed wire – are used for peaceful ends, integrating traditional earth architecture with contemporary global safety requirements.

I’ll be making a few changes soon to the navigation. Mostly implementing categories and a hack I have been working on for collapsible menu items. One of the categories I will be adding is for the current big project in my life codenamed “MonsterGarage”. I will be converting the 28×30 foot shop out back (lower left of the red rectangle in the image above) into a combination creative/living space and, if everything goes according to plan, moving out there in March/April.

Special thanks to Mika for providing me with the side sewer plot information needed to get phase one rolling.

Stay tuned…
